Why Families Choose Superstudy for Latin

Here’s what makes families stick with us — and keep coming back.

Expert classroom teachers icon

Real Latin Teachers, Not Tutors

Every Superstudy Latin tutor is a credentialed classroom teacher — current or recently retired — with years of Latin classroom experience. Many are AP readers and graders. No college students, no grad students — just teachers who’ve spent years teaching Latin and know exactly where students get stuck.

What We Cover in Latin Tutoring

Our Latin tutors are experienced classroom teachers who help students master every level — from first-year foundations to the AP exam.

Latin 1 & 2 Foundations

Noun declensions, verb conjugations, basic sentence structure, and vocabulary building. Our tutors help beginning Latin students develop a strong grammatical foundation and build the confidence to read simple Latin passages with accuracy.

Latin 3 & Honors Latin

Complex grammar including the subjunctive mood, participles, indirect statements, and more — plus reading authentic Roman texts. Our tutors guide students through the transition from textbook Latin to real authors like Cicero, Ovid, and Catullus.

AP Latin

Vergil’s Aeneid, Pliny’s Letters, sight-reading, scansion, and FRQ strategy — on the revised 2025 syllabus, which replaced Caesar with Pliny and added a scored course project. Our AP Latin tutors — many of them AP readers and graders — teach the current framework, not last year’s. → Explore AP Latin tutoring

Latin for Standardized Tests & School Admissions

SAT vocabulary building through Latin roots, ISEE/SSAT prep, and etymology skills. Understanding Latin gives students a powerful advantage on standardized tests, and our tutors help them leverage their Latin knowledge for higher scores.

When families call us

Your school’s Latin teacher left

Most schools have exactly one Latin teacher. When they retire, move, or get reassigned, students inherit a substitute, a first-year hire, or a canceled upper level. We step in mid-stream — our tutors know every major textbook and can pick up wherever your student’s course stopped making sense.

Latin 2 stopped making sense

Latin is cumulative in a way most courses aren’t. A student who half-learned declensions in Latin 1 doesn’t struggle in Latin 2 — they hit a wall, usually at the subjunctive. The fix is diagnostic, not more homework. → Get Latin 2 help

Your school doesn’t offer Latin

Plenty of students want Latin — for the classics, for pre-med vocabulary, for a language credit — at schools that dropped the program years ago. We teach complete courses online, from the first declension forward.

You’re homeschooling with a classical curriculum

Latin is the spine of a classical education, and it’s the subject most homeschool parents can’t teach themselves. We support Memoria Press, Lingua Latina, and other classical sequences with credentialed Latin teachers. → Homeschool Latin support

The textbooks we teach from

Our tutors teach from every major Latin program: Suburani, Wheelock’s Latin, Ecce Romani, the Cambridge Latin Course, Lingua Latina per se Illustrata, Latin for the New Millennium, and Jenney’s Latin. Whatever book your student’s course uses, their tutor already knows it — the chapters, the vocabulary lists, and the places students get stuck. → Find your textbook

Common Questions from Latin Families

Absolutely. Our AP Latin tutors include experienced AP exam readers and graders. They provide expert instruction on both required authors under the revised 2025 syllabus — Vergil’s Aeneid and Pliny the Younger’s Letters — along with sight-reading practice, scansion, FRQ strategies, and the new course project. Whether your student needs help translating the set passages or writing analytical essays under timed conditions, we have the right teacher.

Latin builds skills that transfer across the curriculum. Students develop a stronger English vocabulary through Latin roots — a major advantage on the SAT, ISEE, and SSAT. Latin also sharpens analytical thinking, reading comprehension, and attention to detail. The close reading and systematic attention to detail that Latin demands are habits every other course rewards.

Absolutely! Many of our students attend public schools. Our tutors are familiar with a wide range of curricula and can provide targeted support.

Yes! We work with many families at independent schools across the country. Our tutors understand the rigorous expectations at these schools.

Everywhere — all of our tutoring is online, so we work with families anywhere in the United States. We also have local pages for Scituate, Milton, Newton, Winchester, Dedham, Boston, Concord, and Portland, ME.

Our Latin program is led by Eli Williams — Princeton University classics degree, Masters in Education from Harvard, and 25 years teaching Latin at every level. While at Harvard, Eli researched how students actually learn Latin, and that research shapes how every Superstudy Latin tutor works: diagnose how the student learns first, then build the plan around it.
